Reports suggest Chelsea have turned their attention to signing Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries this summer.
According to the Evening Standard, the Blues are switching their focus to the Dutchman after seemingly missing out and walking away from a long-awaited deal for Jules Kounde.
The Blues were reportedly about to complete the transfer for the Sevilla man, however Barcelona’s presence in the saga has seen them become massive favourites to finalise the deal.
Chelsea turn attention to Dumfries
With the beginning of the Premier League season less than two weeks away, Thomas Tuchel’s desire to add numbers to his backline has become desperate, with them currently only adding Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli.
Inter Milan could be a good team to target, with the Evening Standard claiming they need to sell a big-money player this summer for financial reasons.
The report goes on to say the Italian giants are more open to selling Dumfries than Milan Skriniar, who has also been rumoured to be on Chelsea’s wishlist.
The Netherlands international announced himself to the World following an excellent campaign at the European Championships, with pundit Ally McCoist describing him as ‘amazing to watch’.
While he is not naturally the centre-back it seems the club so desperately need, it could allow Thomas Tuchel to operate Reece James in the right-centre-back role, with the German often saying he would love to play him there more.
However, the Blues should also enquire into the ability of Skriniar if they do continue negotiations with Inter, with his defensive quality and experience something the club are desperate to add to their ranks as soon as possible.
