Arsenal meet with special player agent but Edu may be force to pay £60m fee

Arsenal want Pedro Neto and have now met with his main agent Jorge Mendes to try and tee up a deal late into the transfer window.

This has been a strong window for Arsenal with Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus headlining their summer recruitment.

Arsenal have also wanted a left-footed winger though having targeted Raphinha before he left Leeds United for Barcelona.

Much has depended on Nicolas Pepe’s future, but with Nice now targeting a loan deal for the Ivorian, space could be opened up for a new arrival.

ARSENAL WANT PEDRO NETO

The hot name in the frame is Wolves winger Pedro Neto, with Arsenal pushing to bring the Portuguese star to North London.

The Athletic reported on Monday that talks have been going on with agent Jorge Mendes for more than a month with Arsenal chasing Neto.

Wolves don’t want to sell this summer but Arsenal are making a real push to bring Neto to the Emirates Stadium.

The Times now add that Arsenal have in fact met with Mendes directly to discuss a deal for Neto.

However, the finances of any deal are thought to be very tricky and may well prevent Arsenal from signing Neto this summer.

Wolves want up to £60million for Neto and that’s a fee that Newcastle surely won’t be paying.

Neto would be viewed as quality competition for Bukayo Saka on the right and Gabriel Martinelli on the left, but £60million would be a huge outlay.

Hailed as ‘special’ and ‘sensational’ by Jamie Redknapp back in 2020, Neto has recorded 11 goals and 12 assists in 95 games for Wolves.

That may not sound all that amazing, but Neto’s drive and creativity on either flank has impressed with Wolves.

Now back from a long-term injury that kept him out of the first half of last season, Neto is again showing promising signs for Bruno Lage’s side, recording five key passes and seven successful dribbles this season.

The 22-year-old is a huge talent and it’s no surprise that Arsenal fancy him, but a deal at £60million just doesn’t seem likely – even with Mendes being approached.
