Fabrizio Romano reveals ‘surprise signing’ Arsenal could make soon

Speaking in an interview with WettFreunde, Fabrizio Romano has been discussing Arsenal’s potential transfer business as we approach the final days of the window.

The Gunners have been chasing a new winger almost all summer long, with a bid for Raphinha knocked back almost two months ago and a pursuit of Pedro Neto seemingly leading down a dead-end.

Arsenal have been linked with so many wingers, but Romano has suggested that a name could come from left-field, stating that we should keep some ‘surprising’ names in mind here.

Romano gave an update on Arsenal.

“After this Pedro Neto story, we will see if Arsenal will try again or not,” Romano said.

“But they were also interested in Moussa Diaby from Bayer Leverkusen. He’s a player that Arsenal holds in high esteem, but it’s a similar situation – Bayer Leverkusen have no intention of letting him go. They want to offer him a new contract, so it’s a difficult matter.

“I would keep some surprising names in mind until the end because firstly Arsenal will, as always, work on the names they ‘really’ want and not on players they just want to sign as ‘one more’ and nothing else.”

“They want to sign the perfect player. The strategy in January with Gabriel Jesus was perfect because they wanted Vlahovic and that was impossible. They decided not to spend money on other strikers. They had two to three forwards on the list and decided to wait and get Gabriel Jesus”

Romano says that a surprising signing could be inbound at the Emirates in the coming days, and it wouldn’t surprise us one bit if that was the case.

Indeed, Arsenal have been known to have a trick or two up their sleeve in the past, and as we saw with their Takehiro Tomiyasu move last summer, the north London club do know how to pull a rabbit out of the hat in the final hours of the window.

Fabio Vieira’s move to Arsenal a few weeks ago showed that Edu does know how to keep a transfer under wraps without any leaks or whispers, and there’s reason to believe that another transfer of that ilk could be in the pipeline in the coming days.

Arsenal are definitely a team to keep an eye on as we approach deadline day.
