With deadline day fast approaching, Arsenal are reportedly looking to sign a new midfielder.
The Gunners are currently light in midfield and are apparently eyeing reinforcements.
Mohamed Elneny sustained a significant injury in Saturday’s Premier League win over Fulham.
The Athletic have reported that initial indications suggest Elneny could be sidelined for a substantial period.
Now, according to the Daily Mail, Arsenal are exploring a deal to sign Palmeiras star Danilo before Thursday night.
They claim the Gunners are ‘working on a late swoop for the 21-year-old’.
Meanwhile, Goal.com reported that Arsenal actually submitted a £20million bid for Danilo on Tuesday.
However, Palmeiras are expected to reject the Emirates Stadium outfit’s proposal.
Danilo has been a key figure for Palmeiras since breaking into the first team in 2019.
He has made 128 appearances for his club, scoring 12 goals and providing nine assists.
Danilo has helped Palmeiras win four trophies – two Copa Libertadores, one Brazilian Cup and one Recopa Sudamericana.
He also won the Bronze Ball for the third-best player at the 2021 World Club Cup as Palmeiras narrowly lost to Chelsea.
Danilo’s performances earned him his first Brazil call-up in June, although he is still yet to feature for the Selecao.
“He has to play in the Premier League”
Back in April, Dudu – Danilo’s Palmeiras teammate – urged him to join a club like Arsenal in the near future.
“He is a star, he has to play in the Premier League,” Danilo’s teammate Dudu told ESPN, via Goal.com.
“I always tell him: ‘You have to play for Manchester United, or Arsenal.
“He has to stay calm, he is a kid who gives his all, but I tell him: ‘You are a player for Chelsea, those kind of teams’.
“He scores, he gets in the area, he helps with marking. He’s a complete midfielder in Brazilian football.”
