Manchester United have under 24 hours to decide whether to make a late move to sign Cody Gakpo before the transfer deadline.
In recent days the chances of a move have been trending downwards, after Antony cost a staggering £81.3 million.
The Telegraph had previously claimed United were pushing for a £34 million move, while Sky Sports reported the versatile forward was ‘disappointed’ the Red Devils had since backed off.
Last night he did everything within his power to put himself in the shop window before transfer deadline day
Cody Gakpo scores hat-trick
Cody Gakpo fired in a hat-trick for PSV Eindhoven as they beat Volendam 7-1 in an Eredivisie clash.
Gakpo’s first goal came via the penalty spot, before two more from open play, both scored from the left side of the penalty box.
Mercifully, PSV took him off after 63 minutes, with his hat-trick completed by the 51st.
It was an all round strong display from the forward, who created two chances, and was awarded a 9.6/10 rating by FotMob
Gakpo has six goals and three assists this season, making it nine goal contributions in four Eredivisie matches.
Last season he struck 21 goals in all competitions and he is already well on the way to eclipsing this
Other Premier League clubs have been swarming, with The Telegraph yesterday reporting Southampton had a £21.4 million bid rejected.
United may end up being pressed into a late decision, through reluctance to seeing Gakpo ending up elsewhere.
At a fraction of Antony’s price, Gakpo would add further quality to United’s attacking options. If United paid attention to him last night, they might have been impressed.
