Antony names three Manchester United players he spoke to about transfer

Antony has revealed that he spoke with Fred, Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez before making his move to Manchester United in the summer transfer window.

United officially completed the transfer of Antony from Ajax on deadline day, with the Brazilian forward initially signing a five-year contract with the option of an additional year.

Antony has become the second-most expensive signing in the club’s history, and he’ll be looking for support from a number of close friends in order to adapt quickly to life in England.

“Firstly, I’m really happy to meet the Brazilians here,” he told club media after signing. “I’m really happy to be reunited with them again from the national team. Now we’re here together. I hope to learn a lot from them. Fred’s talked to me about the club. I hope to make history with them here at Manchester United and grow and develop alongside my two fellow Brazilians.

“(On Casemiro) I’m really happy that we’ve both come from the same place, the Sao Paulo youth set-up and today we’re playing together at this great club. As we’ve said in messages to each other, we hope to write our names in the club’s history.”

As well as his international teammates, Antony will reunite with former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag and defender Lisandro Martinez at Old Trafford this season.

He has a close bond with fellow South American Martinez in particular, and he also spoke to the Argentine about what to expect in the Premier League.

Antony added: “We spent two years together at Ajax. We developed a really strong friendship. I’ve got a lot of respect for him and his family who I got to know as well. I’m glad we’re back together again to make history.

“He messaged me today and yesterday. He’s a great friend that I’ve made in football. Now we’re back together and we’ve spoken about achieving great things together here.”
