Southampton have agreed a deal to sign Ainsley Maitland-Niles on a season-long loan deal from Arsenal.
The England international has joined Saints on loan for the rest of the 2022/23 campaign.
Maitland-Niles, who came through the academy at Arsenal, becomes Southampton’s seventh summer signing to date, with the 25-year-old joining Gavin Bazunu, Mateusz Lis, Armel Bella-Kotchap, Romeo Lavia, Joe Aribo and Sekou Mara in arriving on the south cost during the current window.
Southampton are also understood to be hoping to complete moves for young Manchester City duo Samuel Edozie and Juan Larios, with Saints expected to be busy in the final stages of the summer window.
Defender Duje Caleta-Car is also on Southampton’s radar as they look to strengthen Ralph Hasenhuttl’s squad.
Maitland-Niles, who has made 132 appearances for Arsenal and been capped five times by England at senior international level, will provide competition for Southampton in midfield and at full-back, with his versatility offering Ralph Hasenhuttl options in different formations.
This is not the first time he has been linked with Saints, with Maitland-Niles reported to be a target for the club in the January transfer window in 2021, only for him to instead join West Bromwich Albion.
He then joined Italian side Roma last season on loan, but now, Saints have finally landed his signature, with Maitland-Niles set to join his new team-mates ahead of the Premier League clash with Wolves at Molineux on Saturday.
