Fabrizio Romano claims Arsenal have five years deal waiting for their top transfer target, but deal looks difficult

Arsenal want Douglas Luiz and have a five-year deal in place for him – but striking a deal with Aston Villa is proving difficult.

The Gunners are suddenly pushing to sign a new midfielder after receiving a couple of blows in recent days.

Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny have both suffered injuries, leaving Arsenal short of midfield competition.

Edu is now scrambling to add a new midfielder but actually signing his top target before the deadline appears tricky.

ARSENAL WANT DOUGLAS LUIZ

It has become clear on deadline day that Douglas Luiz is Arsenal’s top target to bolster Mikel Arteta’s midfield.

The Brazilian is out of contract next summer and Arsenal are seemingly trying their luck with a cut-price deal.

According to Sky Sports, offers of £20million and £23million have been rejected by Villa, who are adamant that Douglas Luiz isn’t leaving today.

VIlla have had a bid accepted for Wolves ace Leander Dendoncker – another midfielder – but that hasn’t changed the stance on Douglas Luiz.

Arsenal are unlikely to give up though and there is some encouragement offered by Fabrizio Romano.

Romano has taken to Twitter to claim that Arsenal have a five-year deal ready and waiting for Douglas Luiz should a fee be agreed.

Douglas Luiz is keen on the move but it’s now down to Arsenal and Villa to try and figure out a fee.

Time is running out and Arsenal may need to go up to £30million to tempt Villa into selling before the deadline.

This is far from ideal for Arsenal, who may not have much time to pivot to another target instead of the Brazilian.

Douglas Luiz scored against Arsenal on Wednesday night, finding the net straight from a corner in Villa’s 2-1 defeat at the Emirates Stadium.

North London could become home for Douglas Luiz soon, but whilst terms between Arsenal and Douglas Luiz are no problem, Villa are standing in the way.
