Albert Sambi Lokonga is the big winner after Arsenal failed to sign Douglas Luiz on transfer deadline day.
Injuries to Thomas Partey and Mo Elneny pushed the Gunners into the market in the closing hours of the transfer window.
They made three bids to try and sign the Brazil international from Aston Villa but they did not get the deal over the line.
Now, Mikel Arteta must go with the squad he has with the Europa League coming back as he looks to keep his side top of the Premier League.
Lokonga should be pleased with Arsenal’s deadline day
That has handed Lokonga a huge opportunity to get more gametime during his second season in the famous red and white shirt.
With everyone fit and an established new signing coming in, Lokonga could have found gametime hard to come by this season.
Now, he should get opportunities to show the talent which convinced Arteta to sign him last summer, in Europe at the very least.
It was reported in May that everyone at Arsenal rates Sambi and retains faith in him despite a slightly underwhelming maiden campaign in England.
They also would have been aware that he would need time to settle in in North London.
Vincent Kompany previously described the starlet as a ‘special‘ talent and he may now get more chances to show that ability after the failure to sign Luiz.
