Xhaka furious with Arsenal player last night, was yelling at him

Arsenal kicked off their Europa League campaign with a victory on Thursday night.

Mikel Arteta’s side secured a narrow 2-1 victory away to FC Zurich to begin this competition with three points.

Goals from Marquinhos and Eddie Nketiah gave Arsenal the win but, shortly after the second goal, Granit Xhaka could be seen ‘yelling’ at a teammate.

At least, that is according to Football London who reported that Takehiro Tomiyasu landed himself an earful from the Gunners midfielder for being too wide on the pitch.

With captain Martin Odegaard not starting the game last night, Xhaka was the leadership figure.

In fact, the Switzerland international has been one of the leaders inside this Arsenal dressing room for quite some years, despite being stripped of the armband during Unai Emery’s reign at the Emirates Stadium.

Under Arteta, he remains a vocal and forceful presence in the middle of the park and somebody who the North Londoners desperately need.

If Arsenal – who are top of the Premier League table – are going to win anything this season then leadership is a massively important ingredient in that.

And although Xhaka gets a bad rep among the fanbase, he’s respected enough inside this dressing room to affect change, as demonstrated in Zurich on Thursday evening.
