It was just a few months back that Arsenal were said to be among the clubs willing to stump up as much as £100m for Christopher Nkunku.
At the time, reports claimed the Gunners were looking at the RB Leipzig star as a potential blockbuster signing. Nkunku had scored more than 30 goals the season before and Arsenal were believed to be in and among Europe’s best clubs in looking at the Frenchman. Of course, £100m was a huge sum by anyone’s standards and the Gunners never pursued that deal.
And now, according to 90Min, any hopes Arsenal might have of resurrecting interest in Nkunku could be dealt a blow, with Carlo Ancelotti looking to bring him to Real Madrid.
It’s claimed that Ancelotti has fears over the size and quality of his squad with the World Cup in Qatar in December. He is said to want Madrid to move for Nkunku in order to bolster their ranks over the winter.
The ‘special‘ attacking midfielder has also been tracked by Liverpool for some time as well, with Jurgen Klopp said to be more than aware of Nkunku’s talents.
Our View: Nkunku Would Light Up The Premier League
There’s certainly a lot to be said for paying £100m for a player but if that’s what Arsenal were willing to do then Christopher Nkunku must be some player.
The goals he scored last season show just how good he is and while the German league can often allow certain players to shine, there is little doubt Nkunku could do the business elsewhere. Certainly, he’d be a fine addition to Premier League football anyway.
As it is, a move to Madrid might be on the cards and after Kylian Mbappe turned it down this summer, Nkunku might fancy being the Frenchman to light up the Bernabeu instead.
