‘Arsenal have a chance’: Romano says Champions League club want ‘crazy, crazy money’ for attacker Arteta wants

Fabrizio Romano has told Que Golazo that Arsenal have a chance to sign Mykhaylo Mudryk in the future, but insisted that Shakhtar Donetsk believe that they could get ‘crazy, crazy’ money for the 21-year-old.

Mudryk has become one of the most talked-about prospects in Europe with his form for Shakhtar. The winger tore RB Leipzig apart in their stunning 4-1 win in their Champions League opener last week.

The youngster was only playing in that game after failing to seal a move to the Premier League in the final stages of the summer transfer window. Romano reported that Arsenal were in contact with his representatives, while Everton made a bid for the player.

Mudryk then very much put the Gunners on alert by suggesting that he would not be able to say no if Arsenal made a proper move for him in the future.

And Romano believes that Mikel Arteta’s men do have a chance to get a deal done. However, he is not going to come cheap, with even £34.6 million not enough to tempt Shakhtar into a sale.

“When I was speaking to my sources during the summer about Mudryk to understand what’s going to happen with clubs around Europe, they told me from Shakhtar, they really think this guy is worth way more than €30 million,” he told Que Golazo, as he noted that Arsenal have a chance.

“They received a proposal on the final week of the transfer window, €30 million plus add-ons from Everton. And they decided to say no after Antony to Manchester United for €100 million. They said, ‘for us, Mudryk can’t be sold for €30, or €35, or €40 million. We want way more than this’. So this is why in the end they decided to keep the player, because they are convinced that they are going to sell him for crazy, crazy money.”

Arsenal have a chance to sign Mudryk

It will be interesting to see what supporters make of any future move for Mudryk. Clearly, he is immensely talented. And his ceiling could be remarkably high.

But there is also an element of risk, given that he is not playing regularly in one of Europe’s biggest domestic leagues. And this deal is clearly going to cost someone a huge sum.

If he continues to impress, there are going to be some sides more than happy to take the risk and make a deal happen.

And there will be a number of Arsenal fans who hope Edu is amongst those willing to break the bank.
