Arsenal defender has missed out on a place in the latest England squad.
Ben White has been a regular for the Gunners this season, starting every one of their Premier League games.
White’s efforts have helped Arsenal go top of the Premier League table.
But despite this, the £50million Gunners man failed to make the cut for England’s upcoming Nations League matches.
Gareth Southgate has opted for a centre-back selection of Eric Dier, Conor Coady, Fikayo Tomori, Marc Guehi, John Stones and Harry Maguire.
The Manchester United man’s inclusion in the squad has proven controversial as he has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford.
And Darren Bent could barely believe that Maguire is in the fold, while Arsenal’s White is not.
The pundit told talkSPORT: “How can Maguire be in the squad and Ben White not be?
“I need someone to tell me a reasonable argument.
“By trade, Ben White is a centre-half. Maguire’s got no form and he’s not playing.”
A controversial decision, but good news for Arsenal – our View
Bent has a point – while White has been impressing and playing regularly, Maguire hasn’t featured since the 4-0 loss to Brentford.
Perhaps Southgate’s decision came about because the Arsenal defender has been playing at right-back, arguably England’s strongest area.
Nonetheless, White will probably be disappointed with the outcome, even though it does mean he’ll be fresher for Arsenal after the international break.
