‘The way he plays’: PL boss says Arsenal have a 23-year-old player who’s almost as good as Kevin De Bruyne

Brentford boss Thomas Frank has claimed that Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard is almost as good as Manchester City superstar Kevin De Bruyne.

The 23-year-old joined Arsenal from Real Madrid on a permanent deal last year following a hugely successful loan spell in the second half of the 2020/21 campaign. He has been a fine player for the Gunners since.

Thomas Frank says Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard is almost as good as Kevin De Bruyne

Arsenal take on Brentford tomorrow, and they will be hoping to get back to winning ways after suffering a defeat last time out in the Premier League.

Thomas Frank, however, knows what it takes to beat the Gunners, having done so in the opening game of last season.

The Brentford boss spoke to the media ahead of the game this week, and he heaped praise on Arsenal. His comments on Odegaard, however, is what caught our eye.

“I think they’ve been fantastic,” Frank told The Metro. “I think the players are growing, they’ve got the right players in.

“I know [William] Saliba came back and [Gabriel] Jesus has been a fantastic signing.

“I think [Martin] Odegaard, the way he plays at this moment in time, [Kevin] De Bruyne is a decent player, but he’s not far off him in terms of performances.”

Our View:

De Bruyne is among the best midfielders in the world.

The Belgian is definitely the best in the Premier League and as good as Odegaard is, he’s not quite on the Belgian’s level just yet.

However, the Arsenal captain is still just 23 years old.

He’s nowhere near his prime yet, and if he keeps improving as he has over the last 12 months, he could become one of the best in the world in three or four years’ time.

Arsenal take on Brentford tomorrow at lunchtime and Odegaard is almost guaranteed to start.
