Nation’s media applaud £75k-a-week Arsenal star for ‘terrific’ midweek display, gets 8/10

Scotland secured a brilliant 3-0 win over Ukraine in the Nations League on Wednesday and Scottish media outlet Daily Record have applauded Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney for his showing – branding him “terrific”, with a rating of 8/10.

Tierney, 25, has started just four of Arsenal’s eight matches this season – with the club signing Oleksandr Zinchenko. But he has not allowed that to phase him and is still very well-liked among the Arsenal support. He started last night.

Indeed, Steve Clarke’s side propelled themselves to the top of Nations League Group B1 with the 3-0 win. Villa skipper John McGinn opened the scoring on 70 minutes, before substitute Lyndon Dykes came off the bench to score twice.

A superb win against a strong side in Ukraine, that puts Tierney’s Scotland in the driving seat to finish top of the group. The Daily Recordproduced a player ratings piece after the match – and they were full of praise for the Arsenal defender.

Handing Tierney 8/10, the Record reported: “Left back covered the ground and made himself available to take the ball. Terrific press and pick out to create a chance for [Stuart] Armstrong. Volley touched wide by [Anatoliy] Trubin.”

SCOTTISH MEDIA HAVE APPLAUDED ARSENAL DEFENDER TIERNEY

It is a boost for Arsenal to have Tierney showing good form on the national stage. The Gunners are likely to rotate an awful lot in the coming weeks, and injury could always see Zinchenko move into the middle of the park at times.

Tierney is also more than adept at playing on the left side of a back three – if Mikel Arteta chooses to revert. So, keeping Tierney fresh and the Scotland man getting game time is crucial for Arsenal. A good sign, that he did well.

Arsenal have four games in 12 days when they return from the international break. Tottenham and Liverpool in the league, split by a home game against Bodo/Glimt, and then after Liverpool. £75k-a-week Tierney will play his part.
