Ian Wright has suggested that Arsenal could do some exciting transfer business if they qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Wright was speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty Show, which he presents alongside Sky Sports’ Kelly Cates.
The Gunners legend did not name any names, but made out that some big players would be up for moving to the Emirates Stadium if they finished in the top four.
Ian Wright makes Arsenal transfer claim
Here is how the conversation went…
Wright: “Whatever happens on the back of this season, if Arsenal do get into the top four, the players that I know that are probably waiting to come to Arsenal…
Cates: “Oh, hello! Who?”
Wright: “No, no, no! They’re waiting for Arsenal to get in the Champions League. This season will be a massive learning curve for this team. That’s the least we can get out of it.”
Cates: “I cannot believe you’re giving us crumbs! You’re giving us crumbs! Just dangling those players in front of us. It’s only eight games but there are players waiting to join Arsenal if they make the Champions League…”
Arsenal are top of the table by a point after beating their local rivals Tottenham 3-1 on Saturday lunchtime, ahead of Manchester City.
City will still be favourites for the title but Champions League qualification now looks a very achievable aim for Mikel Arteta’s side this season.
Of course, they could also get a seat at European football’s top table via the Europa League, and they have every chance of going all the way and winning that trophy too.
It is not clear who Wright is referring to in terms of exciting players who want to join Arsenal if they can offer Champions League football, but some Arsenal fans can get themselves giddy by dreaming and speculating, with their team doing so well.
