It seemed almost certain a few days ago that Arsenal would sign Mykhylo Mudryk, but Chelsea have now reportedly joined the race and are willing to spend big on the Ukrainian.
The Gunners are currently on top of the Premier League table and are flying. Many think they are genuine title contenders now, but they still need some help to have any chance of going all the way.
A talented attacker like Mudryk can make a serious difference.
What sources close to Mykhaylo Mudryk are now saying as Chelsea rival Arsenal
The Independent revealed yesterday that Chelsea are now trying to hijack Arsenal’s move for Mudryk as talks between the Gunners and Shakhtar continue over a fee.
The Ukrainian giants are demanding £88 million for their star attacker, while the Gunners, the report claims, are still £17.6 million away from meeting that figure.
Chelsea apparently believe they can take advantage of the situation now, with Todd Boehly reportedly ready to “blow them (Arsenal) out of the water” with a massive bid of their own.
That has become a huge worry for Arsenal fans, who seemed convinced that Mudryk would become a Gunner. However, Simon Phillips claims that sources around the Ukrainian still believe he will end up at the Emirates despite Chelsea’s attempts.
The journalist told GiveMeSport: “Chelsea hold an interest, but the feeling from sources is he has his heart set on joining Arsenal, and we expect that to happen.
“It feels a bit like Chelsea could be being used to get Arsenal to pay up for him, but that’s my opinion.”
Arsenal need to hurry up!
It seems clear at this point that Mudryk wants to join the Gunners, but the longer negotiations drag on, the more confident Chelsea will become about convincing the player to change his heart.
To add to that, Chelsea’s financial power will allow them to pay over the odds for Mudryk – both in terms of transfer fee and wages – which could make a massive difference in the end.
It will be interesting to see how this pans out in the coming days, but if Arsenal really want him, they should be quick.
